Hey Universe...

Right now I'm not entirely pleased with you. To perk myself up I will watch this video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNCe37JmcP8&feature=related
approximately 800 times. When the video's worked it's magic I'll update the blog.

Monday, Monday

I don't know if you're aware but the Pittsburgh Steelers are in the Superbowl this year. This is a BIG deal. When I walk to work I pass houses that have been decorated in support of the team.

I love this window. It makes me smile every morning. I'm going to celebrate the Superbowl by eating. I'm making football food, chicken wings, buffalo dip, potato salad and cornbread. If, God forbid, the Steelers lose at least my stomach will be full of fatty goodness.

Saturday while my landlord was addressing the problems with my plumbing Eli and I went to run some errands with Suz, on the way back Eli fell asleep in his seat. He didn't budge when we brought him in and slept like this for over an hour.
When he does decide he feels like napping he naps hard. Yesterday we both fell asleep for over two hours which was fine with me this weather saps my will to do anything but eat and sleep. Hibernation mode.
My plumbing is finally fixed and I can flush my toilet, run my sink, do dishes and laundry to my hearts content. Unfortunately he had to literally sledgehammer up the cement floor in my basement and I now have two fairly good sized holes down there til he gets back to fill them. My main concern is that bugs are going to get in. Bug invasion terrifies me even when my house is not holy.
I've been getting a lot of reading done and can wholeheartedly recommend The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, American Wife and The Corrections which I haven't finished but already love. There are six more books on their way to me from Amazon, I bought two besides the corrections at Goodwill and I have a few from Christmas waiting to be read. Also I fully intend to buy more with my tax return. The original plan was to buy two more bookshelves, now I'm thinking three might be a safe bet. Have you seen my dining room/library?

Summer in the City

Yesterday I spent a good portion of my work time calling our home bound elderly consumers to let them know what to do in the extreme heat Pittsburgh's experiencing the next few days. This needed to be done because it's fucking hot here. It's hot as balls, hell, hades, can be, the sun, etc... Pick a cliche, apply it. It's sure to be true. Last night I wore a skirt to the Farmer's Market because all my Capri's were dirty and I couldn't stand the thought of emerging from the air conditioned tomb of my house wearing long pants. Tuesday night when the heat wave began in earnest I went to Rite Aid, bought shaving supplies and used them immediately upon returning home. This meant that Eli got to amuse himself by putting things in the toilet; it was worth it to wear Capri's without looking like a yeti. Besides he only put objects that were too big to flush inside the bowl, he's a very considerate little guy.

Eli got a new diaper from Berry Imperfect designs, whom we'd never tried before. We love it and have ordered two more. It's very cute, patterned with pirate monkeys, but E wouldn't hold still long enough to get a decent picture. Since he's starting to outgrow his mediums, after 10+ months of use, I've been on a diaper buying jag. Like most of my shopping jags it's gotten a wee bit out of control. But don't fret Internet the very real fact of my brokeness has stopped me in my tracks as of this afternoon. I've been trying to buy some one size diapers; that way if my period decides to do as I say and go the fuck away so that a tiny life may begin growing inside me I'll have diapers for the prospective newborn to wear. So, hey body! stop being a jerk--love and kisses Emily.

Thanks to the proximity of the weekly Farmer's Market and the high cost of meat Eli and I (and occasionally Aunt Zanne) have been eating a very veggie rich diet. It's delicious and I'm walking away from dinner feeling healthy. Usually I walk away from dinner feeling like I may hurl because I ate so much more than necessary. Viva La fresh food!

Here are a few pics of the boy, just in case anyone wanted to see some.
Eli in the bath after eating my squash laced fresh spaghetti sauce, as you might be able to see he got it right up his nose.
I gave him the empty thin mint box to play with. He doesn't know it's empty at this point and is waiting for me to swoop in and snatch away his forbidden treat.
I think he was in mid sentence here. He gets very emphatic when talking baby talk.
Oh, how does Eli love swatting flies. He inherited my blood lust for extinguishing the world of insects.
The love of cleaning must have come from someone else. Still I hope it holds over to when he can actually lend a hand with the cleaning.

Random Facts

My friend Bonnie http://bonnkyee.blogspot.com/ has tagged me to blog 8 random things about myself, so here goes.

1. I once worked at Bath and Body Works for 1 night, be nice to those girls they work a lot harder than you think.

2. I love dogs feet. Seriously I love their little pink padded paws and every dog I've ever owned has gotten to experience me falling asleep holding onto one of their paws.

3. My shopping addiction is probably every bit as bad as any drug addiction you can imagine.

4. I can write my name with my toes.

5. I was a girl scout and because of that I love mountain pies and singalongs.

6. Sometimes I eat side dishes on their own for dinner : mashed potatoes and peas and nothing else.

7. One of the drawers in my desk at work holds only shoes.

8. I'm scared of the dark.

I hope that was informative for everyone. On a different note last night Eli was asleep in his bed and I was in my bed reading, he stirred, whined a bit and groped around in his bed until he found Dangles. Then clutching his stuffed monkey he went right back to sleep. The amount of love I feel for that kid cracks my heart open.
